As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took his twelve disciples aside by themselves, and said to them on the way, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day."
Lord Jesus, this is the first time that you told your disciples about what was to soon take place. They probably did not understand the gravity of what you told them. Did they realize you were describing the passion that you would soon enter into?
There are many things, to this day, that we cannot explain and have difficulty believing. Grant us the grace to have the faith to believe your words of truth even if we do not fully understand the message. Amen.
